Mothers have the ability to create stories from the simplest of things. In most cases, they are child's first storytellers. This Mother's Day, we reached out to 4 illustrators and asked them to bring to life the stories their mothers told them when they were kids.

Whenever @chloro.fill and her mother would go on a long train journey, her mother would always carry a storybook with her to make sure Mallika didn't get bored. Mallika's favourite story was of the tigers in Jim Corbett. And when the story was complete, and it was time for her to go to bed, Mallika would stay awake all night, making sure no tigers entered their train compartment.

To get @cliffordafonso interested in the art of writing, his mother told him that if he ever wanted anything, a gift or a toy, he would have to write a letter asking for it. Her idea, however, had some unintended consequences and Clifford ended up writing 2-3 letters every day, making his mother read them all. This went on until she had a put a stop to this. Today, Clifford is a writer, in addition to being an illustrator.

As a kid, @vantagold would like to eat nothing but cooked potatoes wrapped in rotis. Any other vegetable and she would refuse to eat. Her mother, however, had other plans. She used to cook whatever vegetable she wanted, wrap it in a roti, and tell Namita that it was nothing but potato. This way, she got Namita to eat everything she wanted to, right from eggplants to okras. It wasn't until much later that she realised that what her mother was doing.
